In march 2020 we saw and agreed to help a small dog in the north…
How we got our perfect spanish stray dog
Our volunteers work hard here in the UK and Spain to ensure that our spanish strays have a happy ending. The journey to get a dog from the streets of Spain into a loving home is long and requires hard work and long hours from the team, so nothing makes us happy when happy ending stories arrive through our inbox. Asif, Holly and their dog, Boris or Mr B, are now a happy family and they tell us how working with our charity made it possible.
This is what they say:
We chose Spanish Stray Dogs UK (SSDUK) as we were so impressed by the process and the authenticity of the people we spoke to on our adoption journey from the initial conversations seeking the best dog for us to adoption post care. The home check call in particular was very thorough and though it lasted longer than we would have thought, we could have happily carried on talking to the people from SSDUK about all things dog and Spanish dogs in particular.
On confirmation of our application we started to get all our stuff in place and impatiently waited for the day to arrive whilst we kept an eye on the ‘parents’ Facebook page which also gave some great insights into the experience of others and offered a support network – it still does.
Mr B, our dog, was delivered to us on the 5th of July, we didn’t know what to expect, nor did we expect to be on the receiving end of such a loving and well-natured dog right from the point we picked him up and he sat in the car.
‘He’s the perfect size and so cute’ Holly said – looking at the dog!
Promptly loaded into the car with the help of two very friendly and genuinely caring gentlemen that had driven all the way from Spain with the van load of dogs, Mr B settled on the back seat and was a good as gold on the 30 min journey home. We followed advice as well as we could (its hard) and ignored Mr B largely while he settled in. He was soon bouncing around and coming to us for attention and some fuss. Over the next few weeks Mr B settled in more and more and as he began to trust us more and more, we quickly realised that we were right to ‘pinch ourselves’ – we could not have wished for a better little dog to suit us.
Now 3 months in we recommend SSDUK to everyone who asks ‘really, did he come from Spain?’ We are still well supported by SSDUK and send regular messages via WhatsApp to the foster parents in Spain. There are a few bits to work on and we are still experimenting with food etc …. but overall Mr B has certainly brought much joy and a new dimension to our lives. We are 100% certain SSDUK were the right choice for us.
I wonder what Mr B would say………….?
Asif, Holly and Boris
