Asalvo

Asalvo arrived the first time at the pound in July 2023, around 2 years old, in a horrific state—presumably abandoned and on the brink of death. After receiving immediate veterinary care, he was placed in a loving foster home, where he made a remarkable recovery. During his time in foster care, Asalvo was playful, affectionate, and had no issues with people, including children. He was especially good with smaller dogs, though he showed fear and respect towards larger dogs. His foster family reported that he started to trust people again and was in good spirits.

He was then adopted and after 18 months in his adoptive home, the adopters decided that Asalvo was not a good fit for their family (January 2025). He struggled to be accepted by the other dogs in the home, which led to him becoming possessive of the female adopter. Unfortunately, this resulted in the development of defensive behaviors, including nipping. As they did not seek professional help to address these issues, the behavior has escalated.

While Asalvo has shown to be affectionate and trusting with the right people, he needs an experienced owner who can work with his behavioral challenges. He is a dog that requires patience, understanding, and the right kind of guidance to help him feel secure and confident in his new environment.

Asalvo still has a lot of potential to be a loving and loyal companion in the right hands. He would probably be best as an only dog or with a female dog. If you have the experience to work with a dog that has specific behavioral needs, please consider giving Asalvo the opportunity to thrive in a stable and loving home.

Asalvo is available for adoption in the UK. Homecheck and adoption fee apply. Adoption fee includes neutering, passport, microchip, all vaccinations, blood tests to screen for diseases, worm and flea treatment. Adoption cost in Spain (if no transport required) 155€ for males and €165 for females.

Adoption costs to the UK are £570. This includes all DEFRA paperwork and transport by DEFRA registered carrier ( using the TRACES system) direct to your door, except London, within the M25 motorway, Highlands of Scotland beyond Perth, and all off islands (if we cannot deliver direct, a mutually convenient meeting place will be arranged). We sort out all the arrangements and delivery/ meeting times will be advised in advance by the transporter.

For dogs brought to the UK by SSDUK to go initially into foster care, adopters will still be required to pay the full adoption fee of £570 to cover the above expenses.

In some cases, for example a failed adoption of a dog already in the UK, the fee may be reduced to £320 where the initial transport costs from Spain have already been met. This is to cover transport within the UK, kennel fees and any checks required.
