Barbosa & Cartucho

Barbosa and Cartucho arrived together at Los Barrios pound in January 2025. Barbosa, a crossbreed, was about 1 year old on arrival, while Cartucho, a Teckel cross, was approximately 4.5 years old.

Barbosa and Cartucho need to be adopted together—they cannot be separated. They share a deep bond and find comfort in each other’s presence. Separating them would be heartbreaking, as they have always been together. They are looking for a loving home where they can continue to thrive side by side. A home without small children.

Barbosa & Cartucho – Update from Their Foster Home.
Barbosa and Cartucho were placed in foster care together in March 2025 due to the risk of flooding at the pound. They have now been in foster for almost four weeks, and their foster family has shared wonderful insights into their personalities and behavior in a home environment.

Both dogs settled in well after a few days. Barbosa enjoys exploring the entire house, while Cartucho prefers staying downstairs on his bed. They have been fine when left alone, even for a few hours, and have shown no signs of anxiety. Barbosa signals when he needs to go outside, while Cartucho has had a few small accidents indoors, but nothing unmanageable.

Barbosa has recently started barking—both inside and outside—mainly at women and children, but it appears to be a protective instinct rather than aggression. He has never shown any signs of biting. Cartucho is very relaxed but shows curiosity toward cats during walks. It is unclear how he would be living with them, but his foster believes he would likely adjust well.

Both dogs eat well, do not beg at the table, and travel fine in the car. They sleep next to their foster’s bed and love their cuddles, always greeting their humans with joy when they return home. They have also been completely fine with the resident dogs.

Their foster family adores them and would keep them if they could. Sadly, after almost four weeks in a loving home, Barbosa and Cartucho will be returning to the pound this week. We are urgently looking for a forever home where they can stay together. If you can offer them the love and stability they deserve, please get in touch.

This gorgeous dog is available for adoption in the UK. Homecheck and adoption fee apply. Adoption fee includes neutering, passport, microchip, all vaccinations, blood tests to screen for diseases, worm and flea treatment. Adoption cost in Spain (if no transport required) 155€ for males and €165 for females.

Adoption costs to the UK are £570. This includes all DEFRA paperwork and transport by DEFRA registered carrier ( using the TRACES system) direct to your door, except London, within the M25 motorway, Highlands of Scotland beyond Perth, and all off islands (if we cannot deliver direct, a mutually convenient meeting place will be arranged). We sort out all the arrangements and delivery/ meeting times will be advised in advance by the transporter.

For dogs brought to the UK by SSDUK to go initially into foster care, adopters will still be required to pay the full adoption fee of £570 to cover the above expenses.

In some cases, for example a failed adoption of a dog already in the UK, the fee may be reduced to £320 where the initial transport costs from Spain have already been met. This is to cover transport within the UK, kennel fees and any checks required.
