Kenzo is still waiting for a home…
This stunning young boy has already experienced abandonment twice in his short life. He was adopted in April 2024, but after just a few months, he was returned to the pound in July. Now, he finds himself back in a cage, longing for the love and stability he so desperately deserves.
Kenzo is playful, affectionate, and full of energy. He shares his cage with a female dog without any issues, and they even share treats peacefully. Despite his friendly nature, he is starved for attention. He spends more than 23 hours a day confined in a cage, and due to the lack of volunteers, he rarely gets to go for walks. Instead, he and his kennel mate are only going out on the patio for 15-to 20 minutes a day—nowhere near enough for a young, active dog like Kenzo.
He needs more. He deserves a home where he can finally feel secure, loved, and free to be the happy, playful dog he was meant to be. If you have the time, space, and commitment for this wonderful boy, please consider adopting him.
Kenzo has already been let down twice—let’s make sure the next home is truly forever.
Kenzo – Update March 2025:
In March 2025, Kenzo had to leave the pound due to flooding and spent about a week in foster care with another dog from the pound. His foster family shared that he walks nicely on a leash and isn’t bothered by traffic. He is house-trained and does his business outside. While he can sometimes bark at other dogs, he is generally friendly.
In the home, he lets you know when someone arrives but greets everyone happily with a wagging tail. He can be a little unsure around men at first, likely due to past experiences, but once he gets a chance to sniff them, he quickly accepts them. Kenzo jumps into the car without hesitation and travels calmly. He is great with other dogs, including puppies, though he can play a little rough since he is still a big puppy himself. During his time in foster, he slept in bed together with the other dog and even ate alongside her without any problems.
The biggest challenge he faced was separation anxiety, which is understandable in a new environment. However, he had already shown progress within just one week. Unfortunately, his foster had to leave Spain, and Kenzo, along with the other dog, was moved to another shelter until the flood risk at the pound was reduced.
After a few weeks Kenzo returned to the pound…
Despite all these changes, Kenzo continues to show what a loving and social dog he is, ready to find his forever home.
Update December 2025
Kenzo was recently chosen to join a small outing to the local village together with his friend Kima. After having spent nearly two years at the Pound, this was a big step for him. He arrived as a youngster and has had very limited experiences outside the Pound since then.
He was understandably a bit overwhelmed by all the new impressions, but he coped well and clearly found reassurance walking alongside his friend Kima. He travelled calmly in the car, and although he pulled a bit on the lead in the village, this was completely expected for a dog with so little experience in such surroundings. He handled traffic and people passing by in a positive way. With other dogs, his reactions varied: some made him unsure, and he would hide behind one of the volunteers, while others simply seemed to make him want to play. Overall, it was more stimulation than he is used to.
Kenzo is a genuinely good boy who tries hard in every new situation. He will likely thrive best in a quieter, rural home where he can have the space and calm he needs. A busy town would not be ideal for him.
Kenzo is available for adoption in the UK. Homecheck and adoption fee apply. Adoption fee includes neutering, passport, microchip, all vaccinations, blood tests to screen for diseases, worm and flea treatment. Adoption cost in Spain (if no transport required) 155€ for males and €165 for females.
Adoption costs to the UK are £570. This includes all DEFRA paperwork and transport by DEFRA registered carrier ( using the TRACES system) direct to your door, except London, within the M25 motorway, Highlands of Scotland beyond Perth, and all off islands (if we cannot deliver direct, a mutually convenient meeting place will be arranged). We sort out all the arrangements and delivery/ meeting times will be advised in advance by the transporter.
For dogs brought to the UK by SSDUK to go initially into foster care, adopters will still be required to pay the full adoption fee of £570 to cover the above expenses.
In some cases, for example a failed adoption of a dog already in the UK, the fee may be reduced to £320 where the initial transport costs from Spain have already been met. This is to cover transport within the UK, kennel fees and any checks required.
