Roger – In Foster in the UK – Looking for his Perfect Adopters

Roger is a very handsome springer spaniel, approximately 18 to 24 months old. He has been in a foster home in the UK for the last couple of months and is now looking for his perfect home. This is what his foster mum has to say about him:

Roger arrived from Spain very underweight, with matted fur and feeling rather sorry for himself. His first few weeks here were spent getting him to a normal weight, having him de-matted and checked at the vets and introducing him to life in a home. He is a typical high-energy spaniel who does everything at 100 miles an hour. However, he is also very affectionate and loves snuggling on the sofa at the end of a busy day. He loves to be with you  and to join in and ‘help’ with whatever you are doing. He is super clever and has learnt house training quickly and knows to sit, occasionally to wait and responds to being whistled for. He loves to play in the garden, especially with his old slipper and tennis balls. He gets along with my older female dog, although sadly she finds him a bit bouncy and loud for her. He has overcome his fear of the television and isn’t fazed by the vacuum cleaner or any other noises in the home.

Sadly, due to his previous life, where he was possibly mistreated, poor Roger has some issues that his adopters will need to continue to work with him on, so that he can become the wonderful pet that he is capable of being. He really struggles to be left alone and at the beginning was very vocal and destructive if left. He has a big crate that he loves and sees as his ‘safe space’. We have been working on him being left alone, and nights are much better now. We are even working towards being able to leave his crate door open at night. Leaving him while I go out is still being worked on as he will be bark and howl. I have been building the time I leave him up gradually and he is starting to improve.

Roger hasn’t been walked on a lead before and can find the outside world too stimulating. He becomes over excited and pulls strongly on his lead and will bark at other dogs. He is improving very slowly as we try to introduce things gradually. He has found a love for water though and really enjoys splashing in the stream.

He hasn’t had any contact with children while he’s been with me, but due to his bouncy nature and high energy, a home without children may be best. He also has some over-grown puppy behaviours and with ‘mouth’ sometimes when he is excited. He has also been reactive to cats while out on walks.

Roger needs a very calm home, where people are around most of the day. He would love a large garden to play in and somewhere where there won’t be too much excitement. He would be best with adopters who have experience of high energy dogs and who can be kind, gentle and patient as he continues to learn to overcome his issues.

Could you be Roger’s perfect person/people???

And another video of this gorgeous dog

www.spanishstraydogs.org.uk

This gorgeous dog is available for adoption in the UK. Homecheck and adoption fee apply. Adoption fee includes neutering, passport, microchip, all vaccinations, blood tests to screen for diseases, worm and flea treatment. Adoption cost in Spain (if no transport required) 155€ for males and €165 for females.

Adoption costs to the UK are £570. This includes all DEFRA paperwork and transport by DEFRA registered carrier ( using the TRACES system) direct to your door, except London, within the M25 motorway, Highlands of Scotland beyond Perth, and all off islands (if we cannot deliver direct, a mutually convenient meeting place will be arranged). We sort out all the arrangements and delivery/ meeting times will be advised in advance by the transporter.

For dogs brought to the UK by SSDUK to go initially into foster care, adopters will still be required to pay the full adoption fee of £570 to cover the above expenses.

In some cases, for example a failed adoption of a dog already in the UK, the fee may be reduced to £320 where the initial transport costs from Spain have already been met. This is to cover transport within the UK, kennel fees and any checks required.
