ODIN – This is really URGENT, I need a new foster or adopter asap otherwise my rescue are going to have to take me back to Spain
(Odin is from a small Spanish rescue we are helping, not one of our own dogs). Originally adopted from Spain to the UK/Scotland, I am now looking for my special home again, due to no fault of my own.
I am only about 1 year old, the ideal age to learn and train alongside my new human companion(s)! Unfortunately, I haven’t had the best start in life – I was brought to rescue by a young family, who only said that I was a bit nippy around their child, and that they didn’t have a garden. I adapted to pound life well, only occasionally claiming my space and barking at other dogs, and was soon adopted by a lovely Scottish lady.
However, once in the new home, it quickly became apparent in my behaviour that I must have suffered significant abuse and neglect with my original owners. I have some special needs as a result, and it also turns out that my new activity levels – now that I am recovering in strength and confidence – are just not the right fit for my first adopter, who suffers from arthritis and can’t give me the exercise I require.
Here’s who I am, and what I need: – I am a healthy, beautiful, playful boy with lovely soft fur, about 26 inches/66 centimetres tall at my shoulder. – I am a strong and active dog, needing lots of exercise, and a home with a large secured garden. – I am affectionate, but require a mindful approach, and for my space to be respected when I need it. – I have learned to walk on the lead quite nicely – only occasionally pulling and lunging a bit. – I am almost housebroken. – I jump in and out of my crate for car rides without a problem. I am very good in the house, and not at all destructive. I play very nicely with my toys, and can be left on my own for short periods.
I have already learned ‘come’, ‘sit’ and ‘stay’! I am very toy-oriented, which is great for training. I don’t like being touched on my neck or tail, and need the lead clipping onto my harness only. Unfortunately, I am not good with children and cats, and can be a little reactive with other dogs. I need someone with experience and patience, who gives me clear boundaries and structure. I am still learning that I am safe and that I don’t need to be in charge. I have air snapped and bitten a couple of times at the very start in my new home. It’s not because I am an aggressive dog – now that it is clear where I don’t like to be touched, and that I am learning that humans can be kind, I am beginning to understand that I don’t need to do this anymore.
The work my current foster mom is doing with me is going very well, and I am learning steadily. My foster mom says that once I overcome my few little issues, I will be a dream of a dog for the right person. Might this be you?
I currently reside in South Ayrshire/Scotland but travels to any other place in the UK can be arranged.
Thank you for reading my story – love Odin xxx
