Dolce – born into safety, now hoping for a family who understands a young dog’s needs..

Dolce’s story began with a stroke of luck. Her mother, Vaquita, arrived at the pound heavily pregnant and was quickly moved into a caring foster home—just in time. Only a few days later, on 1 April 2025, Vaquita gave birth to Dolce and her eight siblings, all safe, warm, and well cared for. Dolce grew up in this secure environment until she was adopted at the end of May.

Now eight months old, Dolce has returned to the pound in December after her adoptive family could no longer cope with the normal needs of a young, energetic dog. They describe her as a lovely dog, not aggressive, and sociable with other dogs. Her main challenge in the home was simply her youthful energy.

For a dog her age, this level of activity is completely natural. Adolescence is a phase where dogs need consistent training, regular exercise, enriching walks, and mental stimulation to grow into confident, balanced adults. Skills such as recall, calm greetings, and impulse control are learned over time through guidance, structure, and positive reinforcement.

Dolce is simply a young dog who needs appropriate outlets for her energy and a family willing to support her development. She is cheerful, affectionate, and full of life, and she thrives when she has activities and attention.

In January, Dolce was lucky enough to be chosen to attend an external event, where she impressed everyone. She was very excited to get into the car, and during the journey she lay down and slept calmly, showing excellent behaviour. At the event, she was initially excited by all the activity, but with a few treats she quickly settled. Dolce loved meeting every dog she encountered, no matter their size, and was fabulous with them all. She is still a young girl who would benefit from some basic training, but she shows no problematic behaviours and is an all-round great family dog.

Dolce deserves a family who understands what it means to welcome a lively, growing dog—someone ready to invest time, care, and training, and who appreciates her affectionate and bright nature. If you are prepared to support a loving, active young dog through her teenage months, Dolce may be exactly the companion you are looking for.

This gorgeous dog is available for adoption in the UK. Homecheck and adoption fee apply. Adoption fee includes neutering, passport, microchip, all vaccinations, blood tests to screen for diseases, worm and flea treatment. Adoption cost in Spain (if no transport required) 155€ for males and €165 for females.

Adoption costs to the UK are £570. This includes all DEFRA paperwork and transport by DEFRA registered carrier ( using the TRACES system) direct to your door, except London, within the M25 motorway, Highlands of Scotland beyond Perth, and all off islands (if we cannot deliver direct, a mutually convenient meeting place will be arranged). We sort out all the arrangements and delivery/ meeting times will be advised in advance by the transporter.

For dogs brought to the UK by SSDUK to go initially into foster care, adopters will still be required to pay the full adoption fee of £570 to cover the above expenses.

In some cases, for example a failed adoption of a dog already in the UK, the fee may be reduced to £320 where the initial transport costs from Spain have already been met. This is to cover transport within the UK, kennel fees and any checks required.
