Ebro – A senior soul in need of calm and comfort

Ebro is estimated to be around 10 years old. He was found abandoned on the street and brought to the pound in April 2026. Sadly, we have no information about his past.

It is clear that the pound environment is very overwhelming for him — the noise, the small spaces, and the constant activity are a lot for a senior dog to cope with.

Ebro is currently living in a cage on his own. However, during his daily breaks in the patio, he goes out and mixes with other dogs, both males and females, and he seems to be doing well in their company.

During his time outside, Ebro is happy to seek out a volunteer and enjoys gentle affection, especially if there are a few treats involved, showing a lovely glimpse of his soft and affectionate nature despite the stressful environment.

May 2026 – Adoption Event Update 💛
In May 2026, Ebro attended our big adoption event at the new land where we hope to build our future shelter. He did so well during the day.

He had his own private pen and was supported by a dedicated volunteer, who described him as incredibly sweet and playful. Despite everything being new and busy around him, Ebro really enjoyed the experience. He coped very well with the presence of many people, loud music, food stalls, and running children, showing just how gentle and adaptable he can be when he feels safe and supported.

Unfortunately, nobody fell in love with him during the event, so he had to return to the chaotic environment of the pound, where he is still waiting for his chance.

The pound is no place for an older dog like Ebro. He deserves peace, patience, and a soft place to rest — something we truly hope he will find very soon in a loving home.

Update – June 2026:
At the end of May 2026, Ebro moved into a foster home following surgery on his eye, as he was unable to stay at the pound while recovering.

After just ten days in foster care, his foster family told us that he is a perfect dog.

According to his foster family, Ebro settled into home life from day one, as if he had lived in a home his entire life. He stays home alone without any problems, does not destroy things, rarely barks, walks very well on lead, and adapts easily to both people and changes in his environment.

He is sociable with people and other dogs and has shown curiosity and good manners around the cats he has met.

At home, Ebro is calm and relaxed, happy to spend hours resting while his foster family goes about their day. He also has a playful side and is particularly fond of a plush toy shaped like a Pringles can, which he carries around and proudly offers to visitors.

Every morning, he greets his foster family with a wagging tail and hurries to fetch his favourite toy. He is not a demanding dog, but he shows affection in his own gentle way—resting his head on someone’s legs, asking softly for attention, or rolling over for a belly rub.

His foster family also describes him as incredibly well-mannered. He responds very well when called, understands “no”, and takes treats with great gentleness.

Everything we continue to hear about Ebro makes us wonder the same thing as his foster family: how has nobody fallen in love with him yet?

This gorgeous dog is available for adoption in the UK. Homecheck and adoption fee apply. Adoption fee includes neutering, passport, microchip, all vaccinations, blood tests to screen for diseases, worm and flea treatment. Adoption cost in Spain (if no transport required) 155€ for males and €165 for females.

Adoption costs to the UK are £595. This includes all DEFRA paperwork and transport by DEFRA registered carrier ( using the TRACES system) direct to your door, except London, within the M25 motorway, Highlands of Scotland beyond Perth, and all off islands (if we cannot deliver direct, a mutually convenient meeting place will be arranged). We sort out all the arrangements and delivery/ meeting times will be advised in advance by the transporter.

For dogs brought to the UK by SSDUK to go initially into foster care, adopters will still be required to pay the full adoption fee of £595 to cover the above expenses.

In some cases, for example a failed adoption of a dog already in the UK, the fee may be reduced to £350 where the initial transport costs from Spain have already been met. This is to cover transport within the UK, kennel fees and any checks required.
