Ricotta – A Sweet Young Girl Looking for a Home
Ricotta arrived at the pound in February 2025, when she was around 6 months old. She is a gorgeous crossbreed who was found, presumably abandoned on the streets, and brought to safety at the pound.
Even in that very overwhelming new environment, Ricotta quickly showed just how adaptable and special she is. She settled in with other dogs with ease and shared a cage with three others without any issues, simply taking everything in her stride.
From the beginning, she has always come across as a friendly, sweet young dog who truly deserves so much more than to grow up in the pound. We hoped she would find a loving home quickly, where she could really blossom into the wonderful companion we know she can be.
Foster update – March 2025
Ricotta and Firulais went into foster care together a couple of weeks after arriving, when the pound was at risk of flooding, and they adjusted beautifully to home life.
They had no accidents during the day, as they had constant access to the outdoors. At night, there were a couple of minor accidents, but they were clearly trying their best and learning quickly. Both are intelligent dogs who pick things up fast and adapt well when given the chance.
When Ricotta was walked, she settled into it quickly and walked calmly and confidently once she got going. Neither she nor Firulais barked at night or reacted to other dogs barking, which really highlighted how calm and well-mannered they were in the home.
Ricotta quickly showed her soft and affectionate side in foster. After walks or playtime, she was more than happy to relax inside the house or curl up on the sofa for cuddles. She is great with farm animals, including horses, cows, and goats, although she may bark if horses start running. She enjoys her toys, especially ball and tug-of-war, doesn’t chew things she shouldn’t, and absolutely loves giving kisses. She can be a little bouncy at times, so a home without very young children may suit her best, but she would fit well into either an active or a more relaxed home.
Both Ricotta and Firulais travel extremely well in the car and enjoy going on little adventures together.
After three weeks in foster, Ricotta had to return to the pound… once again behind bars.
Outing day – May 2025
Ricotta & Firulais were chosen for a special day out in town.
They travelled calmly in the car and, once there, confidently explored the park and streets. They were completely unfazed by people, children, traffic, and even off-lead dogs approaching them — nothing seemed to worry them.
Ricotta was especially curious about children playing with balls and looked like she would have happily joined in the fun. Both dogs enjoyed breaks in the shade with treats and cuddles, behaving as though this kind of outing was something they were very familiar with already.
It was honestly hard bringing them back to the pound — they clearly would have loved to keep exploring.
And yet, Ricotta is still waiting for someone to notice her.
She is a sweet, playful, intelligent young dog who truly deserves the chance to finally leave pound life behind and blossom in a real home.
Ricotta’s best friend during the past many months, Firulais, was adopted in April. Since then, Ricotta has been integrated with other dogs again and is now sharing her cage with two other male dogs, with whom she is doing really well.
Adoption event – May 2026
In May 2026, Ricotta attended our adoption event. It was a big event with lots of people, music, food, children running around playing, and a very busy atmosphere.
She did incredibly well throughout the day. She had a pen of her own together with her dedicated volunteer, who stayed with her the entire day, and Ricotta was extremely relaxed and settled. Most of the time she could be seen lying on a sunbed, calmly watching the world go by while enjoying cuddles and affection from her volunteer.
She was also very happy to greet visitors who came into her pen to meet her and say hello, showing her gentle and friendly nature.
Unfortunately, nobody fell in love with Ricotta during the event, so she is still waiting for her very own home.
