Lovely podenco looking for his forever home

Mokus (meaning squirrel in Hungarian) is an energetic, smart, fun-loving, clownish, 16 months old Podenco cross presently in foster care in London.

He was found as a puppy roaming the mountains of Spain with his little brother – never having seen a human or a city. The arrangements that were made for him in London sadly didn’t work out, through no fault of his own, and he is therefore now looking for his perfect forever home.

He is playful and absolutely loves playing with other dogs. He is very intelligent and would be happy with a human who has an active lifestyle.

He LOVES other dogs and would be happy to live with another dog. The only types of dogs he doesn’t get on with are 1) dogs who are extremely submissive and just lay down and let him to do whatever 2) dogs who don’t like puppies. He is very good with boisterous dogs and is currently best friends with two boisterous dogs that he loves playing with.

Providing he has had a good run to get rid of his excess energy, he is then good on the lead. He will walk next to you, but he is used to an extendable lead most of the time, so he can trot up and down and sniff around. He does know the command to slow down and if he starts pulling you can use a command so he stops.

In terms of walking past other dogs it totally depends on whether he had his walk or not. If he hasn’t played that day or the day before – he will cry and tries to play with dogs. But if he has had his walk, he might say hello and then keep walking.

With regard to Mokus understanding commands, it depends on how much exercise he’s had. If exercised his recall is 9/10, but if he hasn’t it drops to 6/10. It takes a while. He knows basic commands like, sit, lay down, around (for lampposts and things), hopi hopi (to jump on the bed or bus), wait, stay (before crossing roads), let’s go, NO!, leave it….etc.

He is used to being left alone. He might bark once or twice when you leave and quite a bit when you come back. His fosterer tried to be very careful with training him to be alone for longer periods of time, but has never tried leaving him longer than 4 hours – unless he was hanging out with other dogs.

Mokus is extremely expressive – he makes the cutest sounds – and likes snuggling up to you during the night. Once he’s had his daily run, he is chilled out and calm.

The starvation of his early life left him with a few allergies, but with a mindful attitude it is not difficult to keep this in check.

Unfortunately, he doesn’t get on well with cats, but he is fine living with horses and donkeys.

Mokus is currently in foster. They have managed to find some support and can keep him until the end of October, so we need to find a home for him very soon.
