Rumí – a young soul still finding her footing
Rumi arrived at the pound in April 2026, at around 1.5 years old.
At the moment, Rumi is living alone in a very small cage, like so many of the dogs here. She gets a short daily break on the patio, where she has spent time with different dogs. So far, she has done well in their company, even when they are more boisterous.
Rumi is a very sweet and gentle girl with people she knows and trusts, where she is relaxed, affectionate, and enjoys closeness, cuddles, and a good belly rub. With new people, she can still be a little unsure at first, but this has already improved a lot, and she is becoming more and more confident with handling and new interactions. There is something very special about her — a quiet, beautiful soul.
What really brings her to life are her walks outside the pound. Rumi absolutely loves going out, and she is amazing on the lead. She walks calmly and does not pull, and she does not seem bothered by other dogs, people, or cars passing by. However, sudden noises can still startle her at times. During her walks, she is also very happy to pause, take a little break, show off a few of the tricks she knows — like sit and lie down — and enjoy some treats and gentle affection.
On one of her recent walks with her friend Cracker, she showed a lovely, playful side, enjoying relaxed moments in the grass and briefly engaging in light play. It was a nice glimpse of how she can be when she is out of the pound and relaxed in nature.
As expected, the pound environment is stressful for her. It’s a difficult situation for any dog, and Rumi is no exception.
Despite this, she is a young dog with her whole life ahead of her.
Rumi deserves more than a life behind bars. She deserves a home, understanding, and the chance to feel safe and loved.
This gorgeous dog is available for adoption in the UK. Homecheck and adoption fee apply. Adoption fee includes neutering, passport, microchip, all vaccinations, blood tests to screen for diseases, worm and flea treatment. Adoption cost in Spain (if no transport required) 155€ for males and €165 for females.
Adoption costs to the UK are £595. This includes all DEFRA paperwork and transport by DEFRA registered carrier ( using the TRACES system) direct to your door, except London, within the M25 motorway, Highlands of Scotland beyond Perth, and all off islands (if we cannot deliver direct, a mutually convenient meeting place will be arranged). We sort out all the arrangements and delivery/ meeting times will be advised in advance by the transporter.
For dogs brought to the UK by SSDUK to go initially into foster care, adopters will still be required to pay the full adoption fee of £595 to cover the above expenses.
In some cases, for example a failed adoption of a dog already in the UK, the fee may be reduced to £350 where the initial transport costs from Spain have already been met. This is to cover transport within the UK, kennel fees and any checks required.
